League tour
The South Sydney President’s Cup (under-21) Rugby league team, which will play a South Island team of similar age at the Show Grounds on July 16, will be the second under-age team from this club to appear in Christchurch. Seven years ago the 200plus poker machines at the South Sydney Junior Leagues Club enabled an under-18 team to tour New
Zealand. The team was led by R. Coote, then a young loose forward of some promise, who has since toured Great Britain and France with the Kangaroos and was a leading personality in Australia’s world championship series win. Australian, and particularly South Sydney, officials would be quite satisfied if the under-21 tour assists in developing a player of similar promise.
