VANDALISM AT PORT

Dredge Set Loose Early yesterday morning a Lyttelton Harbour Board nightwatchman discovered that someone had cast off the moorings of the board's dredge Peraki at her berth at No. 1 breastwork. No damage was done and because the wind was keeping the ship alongside her berth she did not drift away. "This is a serious matter and could cause considerable damage,” said the Lyttelton Harbourmaster (Captain D. Holden) yesterday. The dredge was made fast again by the board’s staff. Senior-Sergeant P. J. Alty of the Lyttelton police, said yesterday the area would be patrolled more frequently.
