Rescue Craft Bought For Auckland Airport

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 5. The Cabinet has approved the purchase of two Canadianbuilt Red Angel amphibious rescue craft for Auckland Airport at a total cost of $41,000. Announcing this today, the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr Gordon) said the vehicles modified Muskeg Bombardier tractors were expected to be in service within four months. The vehicles were powered by 190 h.p. industrial petrol engines which drove them efficiently over soft mud with adequate reserve for extra tough conditions and heavy loads.

They had a top speed of 25 m.p.h. on land and their twin 20 h.p. hydraulic motors

gave them a maximum water speed of 10 knots, he said. The craft could cope with waves 4ft high.
