BUTCHERY FINED

Meat Sold At 6.8 a.m. CN.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 5. The Henderson butchery firm, P. C. Holborrow and Sons, Ltd, whose head is the president of the Auckland Master Butchers’ Association, was fined $lO by Mr M. C. Astley, S.M., for a breach of the Shops and Offices Act. It pleaded guilty to failing to have the shop closed at 6.8 a.m. on April 19, when it was required to be closed. The senior inspector of factories (Mr D. H. Rudd) said the shop was not permitted to be open before 7 a.m. When an inspection was made at 6.8 a.m. on April 19 a customer was being served.

Counsel, Mr G. N. Jenkins, said the firm was obliging a customer who had to catch the 6.50 train. It seemed hard that the company should be penalised for an act of kindness.
