End Of Corporal Punishment

(N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, July 5. Corporal punishment has been abolished at Waikohu College, at Te Karaka, 20 miles from Gisborne. The principal (Mr A. Simpson), said today that this was a move to place responsibility for good classroom conduct on pupils and parents. The school has a roll of 370 pupils. The decision was made at a recent staff meeting, which felt that the move could improve the tone of the college and the teacher-pupil relationship.
