Royal Blue Works Well

Royal Blue and Suppl Yawlet were two of the more impressive trialists at Riccarton yesterday la final gallops for Ashburton.

Royal Blue and bls stablemate. Billy Joe, showed marked brilliance to record 50 sec for half a mile on an easy track. Billy Joe (L. Jackson) was a length behind at the start, but was alongside Royal Blue (Stammers) before they went a furlong. They went to the post strongly on terms, with Royal Blue going about his work keenly on the inside. They sprinted the final three furlongs in 37 2-ssec. Suppi-Yawlet (Hobson) was keen to quicken when finishing half a mile alongside Bright Blue (R. McCann) and Pseudonym (George), tn 51 3-ssec. Suppi-Yawlet, a good fourth at Riccarton last month, should match the best of the others for speed in the Lyndhurst Handicap at Ashburton. Krazikid (Low) and Running Scared (L. Jackson) ran home from the nine furlongs in 2min 2 2-ssec, quickening for the last half-mile in 53 l-ssec.

Debbie Marie, E. G. Low’s mount in the Seafield Handicap, came up with an encouraging final trial. She recorded 51 2-5 sec for her half-mile. Earlier the jnraced Lord Macquarto (F. H. Skelton) also returned 51 2-ssec in beating Halisall (Donaldson' and Oban (J. Kerkvliet).

Sabell 'Hadfield) was a length clear of Ibn 'Swanson) and four lengths ahead of the steeplechaser Lovely Clover (Daly) after running a mile in Imin 48 2-ssec, the last half-mile in 54 3-ssec.

Even Chance (Mein) was four lengths better than Capless (Daly) over half a mile, run in 52 2-ssec.

Even Chance appears to have freshened nicely since his Birthday Handicap fourth at Wingatui, and may make an impression against the milers in the Maronan Handicap at Ashburton.

Waitohi showed she was fit for a fresh start in the Seafield Handicap by sprinting half a mile in 52 3-ssec alongside her stablemate, Peter’s Pride.

Retinue (George), another making a fresh start in the Seafield Handicap, led Master

Sheeny (Sanderson) by two lengths after running six furlongs in Imin 21 1-Ssec. Alberta (Sanderson) and Walaroo (George) recorded Imin 34 4-ssec for seven furlongs and *1 1-Ssec for the final three.

Rustan (Reed) trailed Turf Queen (Sanderson) and Headwyn (Tucker) tn the early stages of their half mile, but they finished a good gallop in close formation. They shaped well to record 51 2-ssec.

Chimaera (G. Jackson) followed in 53 3-ssec, Summer Trial (Miss McPhie) in 54 3-ssec, Acrobat (Sanderson) in 53sec, and Shipboard (Miss Brady), in 53 2-ssec.
