Ninety Days Impresses

Ninety Days, Inclusion, and Western Valley stood out among two-year-old trotters to race at trials held yesterday at Addington Raceway by the Canterbury Owners and Breeders' Association. They are all candidates for the Kindergarten Stakes at the Canterbury Park meeting next week. The trials were held in fine but bitterly cold weather. The track was fast. Western Valley won the first heat of the Two-year-old Trotters’ Trial by a wide margin. Like all of his five rivals, he made a mistake tn the first furlong, but he soon settled down and drew right away to win by 20 lengths after recording 2min 22sec, the last half mile in Imin 8 l-ssec. The son of Fallacy and Coronita is a fine young trotter. Direct Jan trotted quite a useful race for second, shading First Girl, which broke twice. Then came Alcalda. Inclusion made the pace in the second heat, being passed close to the finish by Ninety Days, which had broken when trying to keep up with the starting gate just after the start. Ninety Days, by Court Martial from Kaville, won by half a length after recording 2min 19 2-ssec, the last half mile in Imin 8 4-ssec. Inclusion from G. D. Shand’s team, is certain to be prominent in next week's race. False Maid was beaten off third, ahead of Glenrock. FINE RUN Markalan, a candidate for the Canterbury Park meeting, gave his rivals starts of up to 108 yards and a sound beating in the second heat of the 2:20 Class Trot. He took 3min 32sec for the 13 furlongs, an outstanding run in the conditions. Carrao was second, ahead of Carsoneili. Waterloo showed ability to win the other heat from Oscar, which broke early, and Regal John. There were five qualifying heats, but only one runner, Baffle Boy, a gelding by Johnny Globe from Lady Baffelan, trained by G. B. Noble for Mr

L. S. Smart, was capable of recording 3min 21sec or better for the 12 furlongs. He won the second heat in 3min 19 4-5 sec, having six lengths to spare over his nearest rival. Bethel, Raphael, Thurberroyal, Jay Queen, Charlton Idyll, Beat Time, and Quite Local went well in the three heats for 2:20 class pacers. The Templeton trainer, J. W. Smolensk!, won the heats of the Two-year-old Parade with Margaret Marie and Sheer Delight. Margaret Marie recorded 2min 51 3-ssec, the last half mile in imin ssec, while her stablemate recorded 2min 53 3-ssec and Imin 4sec. Lehigh and Dryden Francis followed Margaret Marie home, while Balmoral and the promising Little Marvel were second and third respectively in the other heat.
