“Technologist”
Str, —It is a debasement of the English language to describe a man who can mistake methanol for ethyl alcohol as a "qualified laboratory technologist.” He probably is a technician, but his mistake throws some doubt on his qualification for even this title. The word “technologist” should be reserved to describe one who is highly qualified, both academically and by specialist experience, in some branch of applied science. I am surprised that this terminological inexactitude should have been perpetrated by legal counsel or permitted to stand by the Magistrate.— Yours, etc., P. W. TAYLOR, Auckland, May 15, 1968.
