Four Teams Share Table Tennis Lead

Selwyn I, which finished second last winter, looked a strong contender to win this year's title when it beat Linwood 11, 10-2, in the fourth round of the inter-club A grade table tennis competition last evening.

Although Linwood was without J. E. Kyle, it is doubtful whether his appearance would have made much difference to the result. H. P. Holt, a former Canterbury representative, filled in well but lacked sufficient match-play.

A. Isherwood. He played his last inter-club event for Avonside last evening. He is moving to Dunedin at Queen’s Birthday week-end. Isherwood has been the only player in his team to win any of his singles matches in the A grade competition this season

V. N. Brightwell showed that he is beginning to reach sound form when he beat G. W. McKinson in straight games. He was well supported by R. B. McCallum and W. T Scott. McCallum won all his singles without losing a game Hoon Hay made a clean sweep of a depleted Dallington trio, winning 12-0. Hampered by a wrist injury, B. T. Edwards could not produce his recent good form for Dallington. G. Jourdain (Wallabies), a bespectacled player from Wellington, took a game off the Canterbury No. 1, T. Armstrong (Riccarton), but was well beaten in the third. With its 9-3 win over Selwyn 11, Linwood I has scored four points in the championship. This is two more than its more highly fancied second team.
