CATHEDRAL CANON
Rev. J. D. Frond Appointed The Rev. J. D. Froud, vicar of St Mary’s Anglican Church, Addington, has been appointed a canon of Christchurch Cathedral. He replaces the Ven. R. O. Williams, who has resigned as a canon on his appointment as Archdeacon of Rangiora and Westland.
Canon Froud’s appointment was made by the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt) on the recommendation of a combined meeting of the standing committee of the diocese and the Cathedral chapter. Canon Froud was ordained in the diocese in 1937, and was a curate in Fendalton and Sydenham before becoming priest in charge of Banks Peninsula. He was a chaplain to the forces from 1942 to 1945. On his return he was vicar of Kensington-Otipua, New Brighton, Ashburton, and Addington. Since 1960 he has been Rural Dean of South Christchurch.
