Distribution Of New Edition The Post Office this week began issuing 170,000 new telephone directories for Christchurch and district subscribers. The first supplies went to Sumner and New Brighton, and the distribution is ex pected to take three weeks. High school boys have been engaged to help Post Office staff deliver 140,000 copies in the Christchurch metropolitan area.
In each copy is a notice urging subscribers not to use the new directories until after 9.30 p.m. on June 7 when the Memorial Avenue and Willow by exchanges will come into service. The new directory has a coloured photograph of Christ church Cathedral on the cover. It contains about 100,000 listings including 6000 changed numbers associated with new exchange facilities. About 11,000 other changes have occurred since the issue of the last directory. There are 20 pages more in the general listings and the business section is slightly bigger.
