Two Men Sent To Gaol
Haami Tahere, aged 21. and Terence Kurni Hemi, aged 22, were each sentenced to nine months gaol by Mr Justice Wilson when they appeared in the Supreme Court yesterday for sentence on a charge of burgling a waffle shop in Ferry Road. Mr R. J. Allan said eaeh prisoner had a considerable list of previous convictions but the breaking into the waffle shop had been an illconceived and clumsily executed venture and nobody had got anything from it. His Honour agreed that the offence had been rather a stupid one, and it seemed both men had been affected by liquor to some extent. “Nonetheless, burglary is a serious offence, an offence which is far too prevalent at this time,” his Honour said.
He said Tahere had been the leader in the offence. He had been in custody for eight weeks awaiting trial and sentence, The sentence imposed on Hemi was to be served cumulatively to the term he was at present serving for another offence.
