(Hew Zealand Pratt Association)
AUCKLAND, May 13.
A move which, it was claimed, could stop streets and roads being repeatedly uprooted with the wasteful spending of thousands of dollars of public money, was rejected by the Auckland Regional Authority’s policy and finance committee today.
The only committee member in favour of the idea, for a central information bureau on public works, was Mr D. M. Robinson, who was the first to advocate it Mr Robinson suggested that the authority’s general manager, Mr E. A. Flynn, report on the question of the authority setting up such a bureau.
The bureau, he Mid, could act as a collection and advisory agency, receiving advice of pending public works from local authorities, ad hoc bodies such as power boards, and Government departments.
Each body would then be
able to time its public works to coincide with those of other bodies. Mr F. G. Turner said there was already a certain amount of co-operation among the authorities, but some of the public works could not be anticipated. The chairman (Mr H.' D. ( Lambie) Mid the information bureau would be a tremendous job, of the non-revenue producing kind.
