Weedkiller In Lakes
tlf.!. Pros AtndaUon) WELLINGTON, May 13. The policy on the control-of lake weed in Lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti has been changed in an effort to protect the tourist and recreational value of the two waterways. The use of weedidde sprays will be extended under careful scientific supervision to give better control in all areas where heavy weed infestation is a nuisance to users of the lakes. This was announced in a joint statement tonight by the Minister of Lands (Mr MacIntyre) and the Minister of Science (Mr Taiboys). Mr Taiboys said that the initial policy of minimum control had been restricted to providing access to property and landings
"This was a wise initial restriction but it provided inadequate relief for the users of the lakes,” he said.
