RACING Sandbank Form Runner For Orari Tomorrow

After two wins and a creditable third at his last three starts, Sand* bank is an attractive prospect for the Charles McDonald Handicap, first leg of the Geraldine Racing Club’s TA.B. double tomorrow.

Sandbank’s two most recent wins wore in high-weights at Riccarton at Easter. Then he ran a good third behind Carpenter and Superspan at the Dunedin Jockey Chib’s Anzac Day meeting. Sandbank gets back a fair way in some of his races, and any thinning out in the

Geraldine club’s field would help him. But he showed what he could do on a small course in beating a good field in the Waimate Cup almost a year ago. In the absence of the Amberley Cup winner, Royal Blue, Sabell could be Rlecarton’s best representative. Sabell was the runner-up in the Amberley Cup, and, being still at the Improving stage, he rates a place on the short list of possible winners.

If success is to elude the Canterbury horses it could go the way of the Gore-trained Somellght, winner of two of his last four starts from the Winsloe stable. Kalimera and Port Bank look the best of the others. Second Leg James Arthur, Tumble. Glamis Lad, The Greatest, and Donald Mac should supply the strength of the field for the Gordons Gin Handicap, second leg of the TA-B. double. Tumble and The Greatest both won at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting. and James Arthur and Glamis Lad were minor placegetters. The Greatest was also a meritorious third behind Tumble and Glamis Lad in the Waltham Handicap on the final day of the meeting after winning at a mile on the second day and running third in the Great Easter.

James Arthur was the best of the South Island sprinters in the Great Easter Handicap. He beat all but Woodville's Pau Doble in his only start at the meeting. A firm track would show Donald Mac to greater advantage than anything he showed in the mud in his only start at Riverton at Easter. There will be an on-eourse concession double on the Four Peaks Hurdles and the Waihl Hack Handicap.
