Firemen Firm
Unless there is a solution on meal and travelling allowance claims today, firemen at Christchurch Airport will refuse to do night duty from midnight tonight Talks aimed at settling the dispute will be held in Wellington today between representatives of the firemen and the Department of Civil Aviation. In Christchurch last night the regional superintendent of the department (Mr L. E. Duke) said the firemen's ban would not affect scheduled flights anywhere in New Zealand.
Special flights and delayed flights occurring after the last scheduled flight would not be covered by fire services. The firemen claim the Government’s decision to withdraw their meal and travelling allowances is the reason for their intended action.
