14 unions in All Blacks

tpHIS year’s All Blacks x 'Save set a record before even playing a match. Mort than any other side in the history of Rugby in New Zealand, the All Blacks are representative of most of New Zealand. Fourteen unions are represented in the team, nine of them with one player, while Canterbury, with six, has twice as many as the next unions. Wellington and Taranaki each have three representatives ;n the team, and Counties and Hawke’s Bay each two. Before this year, the most “representative" teams were

the 1929 and 1922 sides, which also toured Australia. Thirteen unions had players in these teams. The least “representative" teams which undertook major tours were the 1905 team to Britain, and the 1949 side to South Africa. Each had players from only eight unions, and in the latter team Otago and Auckland supplied a total of 20 players. This year’s team is also distinctive in that it includes an All Black from Wanganui for the first time since 1950.
