Soccer in Olympics
Not everybody agrees with the New Zealand Football Association’s policy of seeking Inclusion in the professional World Cup competition rather than the amateur Olympic Games.
“I think we could have got a team away to the 1972 Olympic Games and done very well,” the chairman of the Canterbury Olympic Soccer Training Centre (Mr A McDonald)
told the Canterbury Football Association recently. Dropping the Olympic Games in favour of the World Cup was wrong in his opinion, Mr McDonald said. His organisation had been set up in the days when the national association was aiming for a place in the Olympics, but was still serving soccer well by offering players free coaching.
