Bagpipes For Export
. Export sales of bagpipes are booming throughout the world, as Jameson Clark found when he talked to a manufacturer, Mr David Forrester of Glasgow, in the 8.8. C. World Service programme “Scotland Today.” “Our biggest market Is America, but we export to Australia and Canada—in fact every part of the world—to wholesalers and to retail customers,” said Mr Forrester. "We sent 50 sets to the Algerian Army who have been trained by Scottish pipe majors. We are always full with orders. Our trouble is supply.” Asked by Jameson Clark, what was the most promising market 'for the future he said: “I would think that as America, is dropping the duty, America will be the most promising, although we sell a lot of pipes in Australia.” Prices he said, ranged from £2B a set to £l5O a set. The price was governed entirely by the mounting. The £2B set was made just as carefully as the £l5O set, but one was mounted in silver. Some were mounted in real ivory, some in imitation ivory, and the price was based on the mounting.
