FINE WOOLS CHEAPER

Fine-wool values slipped when the final Christchurch wool sale of the 1967-68 season was held at the Wool Exchange at Addington yesterday.

The market was quoted as some 7| to 121 per cent easier than at the last fine-wool sale at Timaru for halfbred wools.

Some of these wools were about 8c per lb cheaper than they were at the last Christchurch sale in March.

Although the Wool Commission sold most of the 3800 bales of mainly fine wool it offered from its stockpile, trade offers for some of the fleece fell well short of the commission’s reserve and the wool was passed back to the commission. This became more pronounced as the sale proceeded.

Crossbred wools were selling a little better than at the recent Napier sale but these wools were still trailing behind the last Christchurch sale by about 3c to 5c per lb. A fuller report appears on page 18.
