THE STATE ELECTRICITY COMMISSION OF ' QUEENSLAND MANAGER The Cairns Regional Electricity Board THE STATE ELECTRICITY COMMISSION of Queensland, on behalf of THE CAIRNS REGIONAL ELECTRICITY BOARD, invites applications for the position of MANAGER of the Board with head office at Cairns, Queensland. The Board is an Electric Authority constituted under the provisions of “The Regional Electric Authorities Acts, 1945 to 1964.” It is responsible for the supply of electricity in a Region having an area of approximately 115,000 square miles which includes the City of Cairns, the Town of Thursday Island and twelve Shires embracing rural, industrial and commercial activities. The Board purchases electricity in Bulk from the Northern Electric Authority of Queensland for supply from its main distribution system over an area extending from Cardwell in the South to Daintree in the North and westward to all parts of the Atherton Tableland. Transmission and distribution is at 66kV and 22kV and there is an extensive 12.7kV single wire earth return system in operation. The maximum demand on the main system is about 50 MW and the units sold are at the rate of approximately 200 millions per annum. The Board operates isolated systems supplied from local internal combustion engine driven generating stations at Thursday Island, Cooktown, Normanton and Georgetown serving ownship areas. Installed capacity is 800 kW, 158 kW, 164 kW and 48kW respectively. The extension of the main system to Cooktown in the near future will enable that generating station to be closed down. Altogether there are about 30,000 consumers in the Region and the anticipated revenue for this financial year is in excess of $5 millions. The Board has a total of about 600 employees in all categories. Applicants should have had considerable experience in the management, operation and development of an undertaking of comparable scope and size. They should have appropriate academic qualifications preferably of the kind which would entitle them to Corporate Membership of a recognised engineering institution. The salary payable for the position will be within the range $lO,OOO to $10,750 per annum. Favourable recreation, sick and long service leave entitlements apply and a staff superannuation scheme is in operation.
