UNIVERSITY SEAT
Contest In Election
The headmaster (Mi F. S. Caldwell) will be nominated by the Christchurch Boys’ High School board of governors in the election for a representative of the governing bodies of secondary schools on the Canterbury University Council. The sitting member (Professor G. Jobberns) has been nominated by a number of other Christchurch high school boards. The chairman of the Christchurch Boys’ High School board (Mr D. Clark) said at a meeting that this nominatlbn was no reflection on Perfessor Jobberns.
However, the board felt this seat should be filled by someone directly concerned with school problems and the preparation of students for the university. Mr Caldwell’s position, his experience overseas on a Woolf Fisher travelling fellowship, and his personal calibre should win the confidence of all secondary schools and, If elected, he would also be able to contribute more widely to the deliberations of the council, said Mr Clark.
