Chaplin Wins Boys’ Chess

R. Chaplin, of Christchurch Boys' High School, won the Canterbury schoolboys' chess championship when It concluded yesterday. Only half a point behind Chaplin was M. Yeabsley, of Shirley Boys' High School. Yeabsley was held to a draw by J. J. Mulligan, of Timaru Boys’ High School. In the final round, otherwise ho would have finished equal on point* with Chaplin. Brown (St Beda’s) by default; T. Rooks (Waimea) beat B. Coulter (5.8.H.5.); B. Temby (5.8.H.5.) beat H. Duncan (5.8.H.5.); R. McGregor (Cashmere) beat M. Baird (Cashmere) : B. D. McCulloch (5.8.H.5.) beat A. Carplnter (St Bede’s); A. Bolwell (Waimea) beat L. Palmer (Heaton Intermediate) ; D. Mackintosh (5.8.H.5.) beat W. Rosenberg (Cashmere); R. Suggate (5.8.H.S.) beat J.
