Mother’s Day In Gaol
<N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAN QUENTIN (California),
May 8. Mother’s Day at the maxi-mum-security San Quentin prison will be different this year. Under novel plans announced yesterday, convicts will munch toast with their mothers, take them to church, and then present them with posies from the prison greenhouse.
A prison official, Mr J. Park, said that more than 200 mothers were expected to arrive for a three-course breakfast with their gaoled sons next Sunday. The privilege of eating with mum will cost inmates one dollar—the price of her food. The 76 condemned men in the prison's celebrated “death row” are specifically barred from Mother’s Day celebrations.
