RACING Hamua Likely In Stakes Tomorrow

“Thu Press" Special Service TRENTHAM. Woodville stables will field a strong team of horses for the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s May meeting tomorrow. The crack colt, Rajah Sahib, the improving stayer, Hamua, and the steeplechaser, Fleeting Moment, are just three of the centre’s outstanding prospects.

After winning his last four starts in convincing style, Rajah Sahib is an automatic favourite for the Pacific Handicap. He is certain to touch a short price. Hamua is in the first leg of the double, the Gloaming Stakes, and is one of the obvious prospects.

Yet Fleeting Moment is probably the most attractive prospect of all. In his two latest runt he has won easily both over hurdles and country. Now he returns to the track on which he won the Parliamentary Handicap to meet a moderate field in the Capital Steeplechase. No horse in the Gloaming Stakes is better seasoned to run a mile and a half out than Hamua, which probably will have L. K. Tinsley up this time. In a brief, but highly successful career Hamua has raced 12 times for seven wins and four minor placings. This is the record of an aboveaverage horse and the impression was cemented at Woodville last Saturday when the three-year-old outclassed a useful field. This was over approximately a furlong less than tomorrow’s distance in the President’s Handicap and he faces the toughest test of his career, but he should manage it safely if the track is not too heavy. No Penalty Last Saturday Hamua was ridden by J. F. Harris. He will not incur a rehandicap as a result of this win and

Tinsley will probably ride him at 7st 111 b.

Among his leading rivals are Agricole and Point Duty, two horses with a fair amount of ability. Agricole proved this by winning comfortably at Tauherenikau on Anzac Day.

Point Duty, which needed his race at Woodville last week-end, will improve sharply. He has Bst 31b and a good barrier draw and bis Trenthgm preparation appears to have been nicely timed.

Point Duty won this race last year. The top-weights, Dalvuli and Loofah, are proven at Trentham, although both could benefit by a race at this stage. The pick of the northerners engaged is Sunset Fair, whose close second to Bright Chief at Avondale last start looked most encouraging. Manana, the South Island’s only runner, will come in for much attention with 7st 81b if the track does not become heavy. He has won at a mile and a half at Trentham, and Point Duty beat him only by inches at this meeting last year. Second Leg The second leg will be the Wadestown Handicap, in which Dunraven is sure to have a big following. He started a fresh campaign at Waverley recently, needed the outing and blew out. The race brought him along rapidly and against a moderate field he should be extremely hard to beat

A horse with a good record at Trentham, Dunraven has drawn well at No. 7. He will be one of the leaders to the crossing and if the ground is not too heavy he should last it out safely.

The speedster, Ana Kildare, may be too fast for Dunraven tn the early stages. This is the biggest test of her career and, although the field is far stronger than the one she beat test time at Feilding, she should be in this for a long way. A likely improver i* the Winter Cup winner, Kalott, which resumed at Marton last Tuesday and gave a good account of herself. As that race should have sharpened her up, she could be a danger this time, even at six furlongs. z The best of the remaining

runners is probably Cobbler Lane, which seems to like Trentham. At longer odds, Havering could be quite capable of springing a surprise. Fields, with form, for th* T.A.B. double races are: 2.36 p.m.— GLOAMING STAKES
