PHOTOGRAPH OF VIRGIN MARY?
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CAIRO, May 6. The Cairo semiofficial newspaper, “Al Ahram,” has printed a front-page photograph said to show the “Lady in White” —described by a Coptic Orthodox archbishop as a vision of the Virgin Mary, the Associated Press reported. The paper said yesterday that an examination of the negative had shown that “it was not a fake.” The announcement on Saturday by Archbishop Athanasius "confirming” that the Virgin had appeared several times to thousands of people at the Church of the Virgin Mary at Zeituon, a Cairo suburb, brought a crowd estimated at more than 50,000 to the building. Egyptian authorities an-
oounced plans to make the church a "tourist shrine.” The "Al Ahram” photograph shows the church building, somewhat dimly lit, with the white shape of the “vision” standing out more sharply. The archbishop’s statement, made with the authority of Pope Kyrollos, head of the Coptic Church in Egypt and Africa, said the Virgin appears on top of one of the church’s cupolos. The church is near the spot where, according to legend, the Holy Family rested during the flight from Bethlehem into Egypt.
Identifying Luggage. Many suitcases look alike on a trolley at an airport. To identify your own quickly, paint the handles with a brightly coloured nail varnish or neatly tie on a piece of red cotton thread. The extra colour on the handle will catch your eye quickly and you will not need to go searching through a stack of similar cases looking for your name label.
