Reception For Duke
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 6. The planned all-male dinner for the Duke of Edinburgh in Auckland will not be held. Instead the Duke will be guest at an official civic reception.
The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said today that he had been informed by cable from Rome that the Royal party had agreed to the change in the Duke’s itinerary.
Asked if this meant women would be invited to the function, he said: “This is entirely a matter for the City Council.” The cost of the function would be shared equally by the Government and the city, he said.
