Invitation Not Given
The chairman of the Paparua County Council (Mr D. H. Warren) told a meeting of the council last evening that he had been invited to Christchurch Airport for the arrival of the Duke of Edinburgh on May 23, but he had been invited to a later function. Cr A. Y. Shuker, who raised the matter, said the council should express concern to the Internal Affairs Department, which on previous occasions had overlooked the fact that the airport was in the county. , It would be fitting, he Mid, for the county chairman to be present. On Cr Shaker’s motion, the council decided to call the matter to the department’s notice.
Opera Company. The chairman of the New Zealand Opera Company (Mr J. Hartstonge) announced today that Mr F. Turnovsky would succeed him as chairman of the company.—(P.A.)
