Investigation Of Barrett’s Reef

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, April 23. An investigation of Barrett’s Reef will soon be made by the Royal New Zealand Navy’s operational diving unit. The unit has just completed an inspection of the Wahine’s hull for the Marine Department, and has submitted a report.

The necessity for studying Barrett’s Reef is twofold.

| First, an attempt must be made to locate the Wahine's | port propeller which, with its , A-bracket and part of the shaft, was torn out of the ship when she struck in the vicinity of the reef. According to a London report, the starboard propeller is also missing. Before the full publie inquiry into the Wahine disaster begins, it is important to find the point of impact.

It is believed that the missing propellers will be found close to this, and that divers working over the reef should be able to establish the course of the stricken ship. The second reason for surveying the reef is to establish whether it is possible to remove it Prominent mariners doubt that this could be done.
