FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A disturbed westerly airstream covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds; showers in the Alps; elsewhere some fogbanks at first followed by scattered showers; moderate temperatures. Marlborough and Nelson.—North-west winds, fresh at times in exposed places; winds may become rather variable for a time during the day: scattered showers with a few thunderstorms about the main ranges, but clearing; conditions developing from the west in the afternoon; rather mild. Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds; showery, with isolated thunderstorms but increasing fair periods; moderate temperatures. Outlook.—Showery periods, chiefly west of the main ranges.
