Japanese Film Of N.Z.

Sir,—l was very interested to read about the film, “Mysterious White Land,” made by the Japanese concerning our ski-fields. When will the film be screened in New Zealand? Your report states that it has been shown in just about every other country, but mentions nothing about local distribution. Surely we are not to be denied the opportunity of viewing the beauty of our ski-fields for the sake of promoting publicity overseas.—Yours, etc., STEIN. April 10, 1968.

[The general manager of the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Department (Mr R. S. Austin) replies: “As this is a 16mm. production it is not possible for theatrical release to be arranged. It is therefore necessary to take every opportunity which presents itself to show this film to the general public in 16mm. gauge. This department will be operating a free cinema, showing 16mm. films, at the Christchurch Trade Fair in August this year, and ‘Mysterious White Land’ will be included in the daily programmes.”]
