Films In Junior Drama Contest

Two films are among the 10 entries in the 1968 junior drama festival of the Christchurch and North Canterbury area of the British Drama League. The films are entered by the Cashmere Film Company, and both were written by Bob Nitnmo, who earlier this year staged his own teen-agers’ musical comedy. Nimmo produced one film, “Conflicting Characters,” and Max Sullivan the other, “Standby Adventures.”

Judged this year by the Christchurch playwright, Daphne Milbum, the festival will open on Thursday evening at 7.30 at the Cashmere High School. The programme is.— Thursday. J. Epsom Friday. Bob Nimmo’s “Standby Adventures” (Cashmere Film Co.), Max Sullivan; R. Gow’s “Scuttleboom's Treasure” (St Bede’s College), G. J. Wilson: E. Albee’s “The Sandbox” (Cashmere H.S), L. Falloon; M. Langham's “Miss Fraser Decides” (Aranui H.S.), J. Dickson and Robertson.

A week-end drama school for actors will be held in Christchurch by the Christchurch and North Canterbury area of the British Drama League on May 10 to 12. It will be directed by Frank Newman, of Hamilton, a former resident producer of the Canterbuy Repertory Theatre Society. He will be assisted by Mrs Lina O’Sullivan and Mrs Margaret Barrer.

The school is open to persons 16 years and over. The enrolment fee is $3. Inquiries should be made to the area secretary, 8.D.L., Box 1742, Christchurch.
