FIRST AND LAST

Dr A. H. McLintock who retired as official Parliamentary historian last month, has the distinction of being the first and last man to hold the post in New Zealand. He is unlikely to have a successor beause the post has been made virtually redundant by university political science departments. Dr McLintock, who is 65, lives in Wellington but will move to Dunedin soon. He retired because of ill health. He held the post for over 15 years and has almost finished his latest work, a history of the Legislative Council of New Zealand. His best-known works are the Encyclopaedia of New Zealand, published in three volumes in 1966 and which he edited, and the 1959 Descriptive Atlas of New Zealand.—(P.A.)

Radio Haul.—Customs officers yesterday found 88 transistor radios in the galley of the Norman, which arrived from Hong *”ong by way of Suva on Saturday afternoon. —(P.A.)
