Muddle About O.K. Titles And Regatta

A yacht racing result in “The Press” on January 29. included in the results Of the Lyttelton regatta, showed that Zenith (D. Hobson. Canterbury) had won the Canterbury O.K. Class championship. This report and result were incorrect and should have shown Hobson as winning the regatta championship. The Canterbury championship for this class was sailed elsewhere at different times and the results follow.

The contusion was caused by O.K. class owners’ association officials not notifying Canterbury Yachting Association regatta officials that their Canterbury championships would not be sailed at this regatta. When questioned on the day the race officials acknowledged that the championships were being sailed aS the Canterbury Yachting Association has ruled that all Can-

terbury class championships shall be sailed at this regatta. The Finns had applied for and been given permission to run their class titles elsewhere and therefore the O.K. class championships would be out of order if not run at this event without the permission of the association.

Canterbury O.K. Class Championship (Ellen Hopkins Trophy).—First race (sailed on Estuary in a light easterly): Pinto (P. Whitmore, Mount Pleasant) 1. Zenith (D. Hobson, Canterbury) 2, Phantom (D. S. Ineson, Christchurch) 3. Second race (on Estuary in light to moderate southerly): Phantom 1, Pinto 2, Emma (R. Gibson, Mount Pleasant) 3. Third race (on Waimakariri tn a light easterly): Pinto 1, Zenith 2. Emma 3.

Final points: Pinto, 3 points, 1: Zenith, 16, 2; Emma, 21.4, 3; Phantom, 30.7, 4.
