VIETNAMESE RALLIES
(N.Z. Press .Assn.— Copyright) SAIGON, April 20.
The first of a series of antiCommunist rallies began in Saigon tonight, and there were indications the demonstrators would parade through the streets tomorrow, the Associated Press reported. About 1200 persons, most of them Government employees, met on a soccer field behind Saigon’s Independence Palace to begin an overnight “discussion” of South Vietnam’s stand against a coalition government and recognition of the National Liberation Front. The groups included psychological warfare, Information Ministry and army representatives, and defectors from North Vietnam and the Viet Cong. A Government source said the rally participants would discuss South Vietnam's current situation now that negotiations to end the war were being discussed. He said: “Tomorrow they will do a lot of marching through the streets.”
