Measles Vaccine Report Prepared

A report on vaccination against measles would soon be sent to the Government by the Board of Health, said the Director-General of Health (Dr D. P. Kennedy) in Christchurch.

He was asked to comment on the vaccination campaign being conducted by the New Zealand Medical Association, and on the start of a programme in Britain in May. Dr Kennedy said he was aware that the programme was to begin, but was unable to comment on the possibility of vaccinations in New Zealand until the board’s report was received by the Government The board had kept the

matter under review for the last few years. In its last bulletin, the New Zealand Medical Association estimated that the average annual incidence of measles in New Zealand was 50,000 cases. The Health Department and the Medical Association of New Zealand preserved an uneasy silence on a matter on which the people were entitled to look to them for guidance, the association said.
