1967 'Boom Year’ For Rhodesia
(ti.Z.TA.-Ktuttr—Copyright) SALISBURY, April 19. Rhodesia has claimed 1967 as a boom year for its eco-nomy—-in spite of United Nations mandatory sanetlons. The Finance Minister, Mr James Wrathsll. presented Parliament with a survey which showed that the country’s economy last year recorded its most rapid growth rate since 1956. most 2 per cent, compared with 1965. External trade figures, released for the first time since Rhodesia's declaration of independence from Britain in 1965, showed a drop in exports amounting to fßhodesian 600.000 ($1,461,261). Exports were worth £ RhodesianBB.4m (s22om). The survey said the decline was caused by lower prices for exports. Imports rose by ERhodesian 8.8 million ($25.7 million) to £Rhodesian93.s million ($232.8 million. The effect of mandatory sanctions —imposed in December, 1966—“ was not as great as might have been expected," the survey said.
