TWO WITH 100% RECORDS City, Shamrock Lead Soccer Challengers

Christchurch City first, Shamrock second, Rangers third —Canterbury clubs continue to lead the way after two rounds of matches in the Southern League, first division, soccer championship. City and Shamrock now are the only teams with 100 per cent records; Rangers have dropped one point.

The main game of the day, City and Technical at English Park, was a fizzer, City winning conclusively, 3-0, to avenge its defeat in the floodlight final. At one stage the field was like a casualty clearing station, Technical finishing with 10 men after using both permitted substitutes. K. Pahi. G. Davis and A. Caine, the last two on stretchers, left the field. However, none of the injuries proved very serious, although Pahi may have torn ligaments in a knee. Rangers failed to get the full points it deserved against Northern, the Dunedin goalkeeper, I. McDougall, using his arms, legs and body to deny Rangers a winning goal in the last 20 minutes.

Canterbury’s other first division clubs had mixed fare at Dunedin, Shamrock beating Dunedin Technical by the odd goal in five and Western losing to St Kilda by the odd goal in three. The biggest win of the season so far was Roslyn-Wakari’s double-figure score against the Invercargill club, Queen’s Park. Only Mosgiel holds a 100 per cent record in the second division, the Dunedin team winning well at Timaru. New Brighton, which picked up two points against Maori Hill, and Caversham, a narrow winner against Shirley-Nomads at Western Park, follow Mosgiel closely, with three points each. Results and tables are:— First Division.—City 3 (J. Logue, F. Madrussan, K. Whitehead), Technical (Christchurch) 0; Rangers 1 (T. Haydon): Northern 1 (R. Neilson): Technical (Dunedin) 2 (D. Con-
