Kosygin In India For Viet. Talks
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) NEW DELHI, April 21. The Soviet Prime Minister, Mr Alexei Kosygin, flew here today for surprise talks on Vietnam with the Indian Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi, in New Delhi—suggested as a possible site for United States-North Vietnamese discussions.
The Soviet leader is thought likely to spend about three hours in New Delhi, having lunch and talks with Mrs Ghandi. As well as Vietnam, they are expected to discuss relations between India and Pakistan, including the Kashmir problem. New Delhi has been suggested as a site for Vietnam talks by Washington. North Vietnam has said it was Still considering the Indian capita) but would prefer somewhere nearer Hanoi. In Indian spokesman said yesterday his country was ready for talks to be held here if both sides wanted it.
There was speculation in Pakistan that Mr Kosygin was ready to renew Soviet efforts to mediate between India and Pakistan, from where he left this morning to fly to New Delhi. Observers in Rawalpindi think that during their lengthy talks Mr Kosygin advised the Pakistani President, Ayub Khan, to make fresh efforts to ease tension between the two countries.
