WRESTLING "Last year it was elimination contests for the world title; this year the same wrestlers under different promotion are going to provide Christchurch with ‘the class of wrestling it has not seen for the last 15 years.’ Mr Antipas, who has just taken up residence in this city, would not know that in these years some great wrestling has been provided by some of the world’s top matmen. The Zorro matches with Al Costello, Don Beitelman and Lucky Sumonovich, to name a few, were watched by capacity crowds. Then we saw Pat O’Connor when he was in his prime and he, too, drew capacity crowds to the Civic Theatre. Even in the last four years the matches put on by the Canterbury association have had a big following. Let us hope that the matmen Acropolis plan to bring are better than the rubbish seen in the North Island during tfie last two years.”—TOM REED.
