Battle Month
“What happened in Octobers of the past? Largely battles it seems. October’s a month when people feel like bashing people. The battle of Hastings was fought in October, so was Agincourt and Trafalgar and the October Revolution in Russia. In my home county, Lincolnshire, they once tried an October rising against the king, but all the soldiers were farmers, and there was so much to do on the land and they were so far behind that they stopped rising and got on with the farming.”—Steve Race, musician and broadcaster, in a 8.8. C. broadcast about the month of October.
