Tapestry Display
A collection of tapestries by Michael Defillipy is on display at the Bishopdale shoping centre until April 26. The collection includes two large framed tapestries (one of a stag and one of spaniels), two smaller framed examples (one of a sailing ship, the other of a Tyrolean scene), and a village scene set in a fire-screen frame. Examples of Mr Defillipy’s work, which has earned several awards overseas, hang in Canadian and German art galleries. Among the awards he has won overseas are the Allan Memorial Trophy, in Canada in 1966, for tapestries from Canadian and overseas exhibitors; and the Tasman Cup, in Melbourne in the same year, in the section open to competitors from Australia, New Zealand and the United States Also in the display is a partly completed tapestry of a sailing ship. To it are taped explanatory notes giving information on the technique Mr Defillipy uses.
