Loneliest Migrants
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON, April 18. A race relations’ study today named Britain’s loneliest immigrants as the Chinese. A report by the Govern-ment-backed Institute of Race Relations said that of the one million immigrants in Britain, the 50,000 Chinese had the least contact with British citizens. Nearly all the Chinese were from Hong Kong and work in the restaurant business, it said. Arrivals from Hong Kong learned the restaurant trade in London then moved on to the suburbs or provinces. The report said their main difficulty was language. Few Chinese spoke English, and many restaurant workers spoke a different dialect from their employers.
