WORLD TENNIS CUP PROPOSED
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PARIS.
• “L’Equipe,” the French sports newspaper, yesterday proposed a world tennis cup, with the winner to be decided on the basis of performances in 10 tournaments, Associated Press reported. Gaston Meyer, managing editor of “L’Equipe,” said in the report that the world tennis cup might be modelled on the world ski '.up which has been contested for the last two years. He proposed that open tour-
naments counting for the championships of Australia, France, England and the United States should count for twice as many points as the other tournaments selected to make up the competition. Tournaments in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe should be included on the list of the other six events, which might be varied from year to year. At least three grass-court tournaments, at least three on clay, and perhaps one or two indoor tournaments should be included to select the best allround player. Commercial sponsorship could provide prize . money, Meyer suggested.
