FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation.—A complex trough of low pressure with a small depression centred near Auckland is moving eastwards over New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury. Moderate southerly winds; easterlies developing in the afternoon; scattered rain at first but cloud breaking in the morning with most of the rain clearing; cool. Marlborough.—Cool southerlies, fresh in exposed places; scattered rain clearing during the day. Nelson. South-westerlies, fresh in exposed places; fine apart from a few showers on the ranges; cool. Buller and Westland.—South-westerlies, fresh in exposed areas; fine in the morning with rising temperatures, but cloud increasing again in the afternoon. Outlook.—Scattered rain in Buller and Westland and about the Alps, but fair weather elsewhere.
