Trees
Sir,—The statement by the director of parks and reserves (Mr Gilpin) about storm damage in Christchurch is a clear indication that that department has in no way changed its policy of tree removal, and so must still be watched carefully by all those who wish to preserve this city's only claim to beauty, its English trees. The people of Christchurch, and, indeed, far further afield are unlikely to forget the destruction of Rolleston Avenue by the City Council, and to use this recent storm as justification for that unfortunate decision is quite unjustifiable.—Yours, etc., A.D.N. April 18, 1968.
