State Change In India
<N.Z.P.A.-Htuttr—Copyright) NEW DELHI, April 18. Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous State, was brought under federal rule today after President Zakir Husain had signed a proclamation dissolving its State Assembly. It had been controlled by the Congress Party of the Prime Minister (Mrs Indira Gandhi), but later passed into the hands of a coalition of eight Opposition parties. The coalition regime collapsed after 10 months because of internal dissension. A poll will now be held to elect legislators to the new State Assembly, which has 426 members. Uttar Pradesh is the third State to come under federal rule since the national election. The others are West Bengal and Hariana.
