School Fees Not Paid
More than 70 pupils of Riccarton High School had not had their fees paid by the due date, the headmaster (Mr T. R. Hitchings) told the meeting of the board of governors. The board agreed that Mr Hitchings write to parents of pupils whose fees had not been paid, to ask “gently" for payment The 74 pupils whose fees had not been paid represented 7.4 per cent of the school roll, Mr Hitchings said. The board nominated Professor G. Jobberns to represent the governing bodies of secondary schools on the University of Canterbury Council. Mr C. M. Butler was appointed the board’s representative at the New Zealand Secondary School Boards Association's regional conference in Christchurch on May 8. Officers elected for 1968 were: Chairman, Mr C. M. Butler: deputy-chairman, Mr R. Ballinger; secretary, Mr P. J. Halligan; appointments committee. Professors M. Gage, H. R. Gray, Mrs E. M. Moyle: works committee, Dr J. Lewis, Messrs R. Ballinger, A. A. Ross, W. R. Schofield, J. R. Humphrey.
