SHIPPING STEEL
Ports Fear Loss (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 18. South Island harbour boards will meet in Lyttelton next month to express to South Island members of Parliament and representatives of the Harbours Association and the Shipowners’ Federation their fears of the loss of steel shipments. This was decided at a meetof harbour board representatives from Lyttelton, Tirnaru, Oamaru, Otago, Gore and Southland, called by the Southland Harbour Board after the Railways Department sent a circular to steel merchants offering contracts for the transport of steel. The boards were concerned that, with the loss of steel as a cargo, the carriage of other goods would become uneconomic. Shotgun Stolen An old shotgun which had been kept for spare parts, cartridges and $2O were stolen recently from a home in Keppel Street. The police have issued a warning that the gun is dangerous and could explode if fired.
