POISON FOR CATS

Strays Under Hospital Stray cats have again become a problem at the Burwood Hospital, where they take shelter under buildings. Mr S. B. Lambie, an approved operator under the deadly poisons regulations, was authorised, at a Waimairi County Council meeting last evening, to poison the cats with hydrocyanic acid in milk, laid in sub-floors at the hospital. “1 gather this is routine procedure,” said the chairman (Mr D. B. Rich). “As winter approaches, the wild cats move from the pine plantations near the hospital to the warmth of the sub-floors. Many of the cats are domestic pets which have been dumped. “The hydrocyanic acid is quite sudden death for them Mr Lambie will put up signs warning residents that he is poisoning, but 1 do not think there will be any danger to pets. 1 am told domestic cats won’t mix with wild cats, and in any case Mr Lambie will not use the poison except under hospital buildings.”
